Tell me about the proposal?
Completely unexpected! We both went out for a meal in town; my husband and I kept saying we hadn’t been out in ages so we’d treat ourselves! We filled up on lots of food and drink and then headed back in a taxi home. My husband is a very chatty person so I found it a bit odd that he was unusually quiet on the way home. However, after having a few drinks with the meal I didn’t think anything of it.
Once the taxi pulled outside our house, my husband swiftly rushed out and walked ahead. Again, I thought this was peculiar as he’s usually the type to open my door for me! But, again, didn’t think twice.
When I got to the front door, I walked inside and noticed some fairy lights all up the stairs ‘Strange, I didn’t notice those on the way out.’ I thought to myself Then I looked into the living room: it was filled with candles, rose petals and, sitting there in the middle of a rose heart was a ring. I just looked at my husband in utter shock – he said something amazing, because of the shock I can’t quite remember what he said but I know it was so lovely and I just heard the question ‘Will you marry me?’ Of course I said yes!
Tell us about your wedding where was it set and what was the feel of the day.
Our wedding was at the stunning Mythe Barn in Atherstone. When thinking about weddings, I always knew I wanted a modern style barn with plenty of room for guests to move around between rooms and lots of natural light for those all important photos!
We’re quite a chilled couple, so wanted to ensure we had a relaxed atmosphere for our wedding and our venue provided this for us!
What did you love/hate about dress shopping?
Loves:
- How special you were made to feel when trying on dresses
- That more dresses suited me than I actually thought would
- The excitement!
- The lovely Madi @ Bridal Boutique!
Hate:
- I’m indecisive: not good when looking for a dream dress!
- Although this was one of my loves, it was also one of my hates: the fact that more dresses suited me than I thought so it opened my eyes up to new styles
What made you pick your dress?
Walking into wedding dress shopping, I always knew I wanted a) a fitted dress and b) a long train.
I ended up trying on so many styles as I’m so indecisive! I started to get confused and that’s when the amazing Madi stepped in. She’d seen a dress I’d tried on earlier in the appointment and said ‘Why don’t you try this one on again?’ so I did and gosh I’m so thankful she asked me that question! I would have bypassed the dress if she hadn’t.
I put it on for the second time with a fresh pair of eyes and there it was: the delicate long train, the perfect fit, the detail and (best of all!) it was actually really comfy. It fit like a glove.
How did you style your day, and yourself?
Being quite an indecisive person I decided I didn’t want to have a set colour scheme for the wedding. I love neutral colours and greenery, so I stuck to white/cream flowers and lots of greenery and eucalyptus when dressing the venue as I didn’t want to take away from the venue’s already beautiful features that we fell in love with!
For me, I wanted to keep it simple and I often feel like less is more – simple but elegant. I felt like my dress was the real show stopper so when accessorising I decided to go for a long plain cathedral veil, just a little shorter than the train of my dress.
I chose a really delicate hair pieces and small stud earrings. I’m not really a jewellery person but I do love earrings, so just stuck to these on the day!
My shoes I chose from the Dune Bridal Collection – a lovely classic pairs of cream open toed heels.
What advice would you give to brides now?
- Don’t try on too many dresses – I only went to two wedding dress shops and found the one @ The Bridal Boutique. I had loads of visits lined up at other boutiques and I just cancelled them.
- Don’t take too many people when trying on dresses, too many opinions can affect what YOU want and remember, it’s your dress I just had my Mum and sister.
If your wedding was effected by Covid how do you make adjustments for this?
Initially, we were going to have lots of evening guests to our wedding but, once Covid had hit and affected our original wedding date, we decided against this and kept to a small, intimate wedding and it was just perfect
Unfortunately, I also had time to spend more I changed my mind on particular flower decisions I’d made but I’m so glad I did! Oh, and we booked some AMAZING singing waiters due to use having to change the ceremony time with the registrars, which resulted in us having a longer wedding day.
Please feel free to mention any suppliers you might want us to link to, eg Your Photographer, Make up artist, Florist, Cake supplier etc
